Is it okay to remove spam posts from a dofollow blog?

I'm new to the dofollow movement. I've noticed that other dofollow blogs have occasional comments from visitors who are clearly just trolling for links. It's fine, I think, if they post a meaningful comment about the article, but I see a lot of one-line, generic, "thanks for the info!" comments with their link included.

Is it against the spirit of the dofollow community to remove these posts? I feel like it's all about the reciprocal effect: give me a good comment, and I'll give you linklove. Am I wrong? Should I consider any comment a good comment?

Thanks for your input!

Certainly remove comments that don't add value. It is your blog and you should decide what is in the best interest of the blog. I certainly don't find it helpful to have to get past all sorts of junk comments if I want to read what others have to say about a post. If you feel like leaving in some short comments that is fine, but you certainly have no obligation to do so.

Absolutely get rid of junk. I researched do follow blogs for a while before deciding to install it myself, the ones with the best discussion and PR all had strict moderation and only on-topic comments. It takes a little more maintenance but I think it is worth it to remove links or delete unrelated comments.

More than of course! The whole point of dofollow is to reward people who take the time to read and properly comment on your blog. People who spam are taking advantage of your kindness and therefore should not be rewarded.
