I too am new to blogging, and I am still learning. I think you made a good start in increasing your traffic by joining here.
You want to be sure and use the sites like: stumbleupon, del.icio.us, digg.com, etc.
Make sure you submit your blog to the search engines, and even then, it will take a month or so before your site starts showing up there.
Also, every time you make a new post, you need to ping it on Google Blog Search.
If you have any other sites, make sure you link between them all.
Leave lots of comments on other peoples blogs.
Write articles and submit them to ezines, and then link back to your site in your signature.
Work, work, and more hard work.
One effective method of traffic generation with a blog is to visit other "authority" blogs within your niche and leave comments that are meaningful(as opposed to blatant self-promotion). You'll start to see some interested, and more importantly, targeted visitors this way.
