I have found this statement to be all to true! Since double surgery has caused me to have casts up to my knees on both legs for a month and one week (so far) I have really been able to relate, in a small way to others who find themselves in situations where they feel helpless. Not just feeling sorry for, because that leads no where, but empathy and understanding which then leads to action. In my case, I used this time to form the charity organization which I've aways wanted to, but just never seemed to find the time to actually do. I started by thinking of what it was that I could actually do, even if no one else ever joins me. Since I do crochet, and I love babies, and I can relate to people in the hospital with complications, the feelings of loneliness etc. I decided to form "Covered With Love". I crochet baby items, preemie and newborn hats, booties, mitts, blankets and donate them to the local hospitals and women's shelters. I know that there are many other groups that do this, but to my surprise when I called my hospital and asked about it, they said "There used to be a group that did that, but they just stopped coming". And so the door was opened! I love to make these little things and think about the tiny one who will soon wear them and the mother who is both surprised and touched at receiving them. However, I would love to have ladies join me so I can have more items in a shorter amount of time to deliver. Anyway, all of this gives me a deep sense of joy and purpose. Now instead of dwelling on my tough luck situation, I never think about it and I feel that what I am accomplishing may just add one more tiny drop of goodness which our world is desperately in need of. Maybe you can add a drop of your own! Well, I guess I just wanted to share how happy I am that I've finally done something about a dream that I've had for so long, and to think....it took double casts to make it come true!
